Challenges in Image Processing Workflow and Storage Requirements
One of the key projects at the Chi Po-lin Foundation is digital image archiving. They organize and archive the 100,000 film negatives, 500,000 digital photos, and nearly 1,000 hours of video footage left by Director Chi Po-lin. Regardless of the type of image processing, managing complex workflows and ensuring efficient storage are top priorities.
The client's daily work covers a series of complex processes from screening large amounts of image data to detailed post-production processing. Multiple versions of image data are also generated during the process:
Digital Archive Project
Starting with various image data, they count and screen each item, then develop digital archiving processes according to the characteristics of the image data, from file management to file naming, and preserving multiple versions of post-production files.
Post-production stages:
a. Film Digitization: Inventory, scanning, color correction, cropping, metadata verification, and file management
b. Digital Photos: Counting, basic color correction, cropping, background data verification, file management
c. Video Footage: Clip selection, basic color correction, background data verification, file management
d. Finally, importing all archived image data files into the iTaiwan8 aerial image database, as well as backup storage
With the growing volume of digitally archived image data, the client's needs for storage equipment go beyond capacity to focus on read/write speed and stability.
During the meeting, Deputy Team Leader Syuan-Ying Chen mentioned: "We need an efficient storage system that can support massive amounts of image data and maintain stable performance during long-term use, which is essential to maintaining efficiency in both post-production and backup operations."
